THE Trek The Canoe Creek Ward trek involved 11 hand carts, 14 families and 65 total people. We set out on the church ranch in Central Florida for a 2 day 1 night trek. We only traveled 3.5 miles each way. But we did travel through some tough sugar sand that made the pulling and pushing rather hard. Our 2nd councilor in the stake presidency was overcome by heat stroke as he was pushing and pulling his cart with provisions for his family of 12. The cart was weighted down to say the least. Another brother and I had to take over for him when we hit the sugar sand as he was already spent from the first part of the journey. When we arrived at camp he couldn't even put up his own tent(a rather large tent) so I had some of the young men help his family.Even though we traveled a short distance, just watching the members join together as one family added to my testimony of the sacrifice of the pioneers.
